One of our most successful flagship projects within the CIC Group, the Dulux Child Protection Trust Fund (DCPTF) was launched in 2001 by Akzo Nobel Paints Lanka (Pvt) Limited to aid the prevention of child abuse. The DCPTF provides financial assistance to needy children and to institutions engaged in caring for abused children, while creating public awareness on the rights of children with the aim of eradicating child abuse in Sri Lanka. Parents and adults, including teachers and caregivers, are also educated on the dangers abused children may encounter and potential signs of abuse.
The DCPTF has implemented several successful projects in the past including the STOP Child Abuse Campaign in association with the Leo Club, educating 70 children at the Sanhinda Children's Home in Meegoda and funding a 'Train the Trainer' programme for caregivers at 25 children's homes.
In 2009, the DCPTF conducted a range of activities, including:
Funding the stage production of 'Rag Doll', a play which captured issues faced by victims of abuse and the long term impact of such abuse. It also dealt with society's attitude towards child abuse.
Continued funding of the education of the 70 children at the Sanhinda Boys' Home in Meegoda. This included sponsorship of tuition and coaching for extracurricular activities, with progress monitored at the end of each school term.
Funding three children to attend the 'Memories Camp' conducted by the Lanka Evangelical Alliance Development Service (LEADS). LEADS is a part of ESCAPE, an organisation dealing with the eradication of child abuse. The camp aimed to create positive memories to offset the bad memories suffered by these child victims and also had a 'Buddy' adult in charge of two children each to guide and mentor them.
Assistance with paints for the extended housing area at the Jeevanakanda Lama Nivasaya that houses girls who have been subjected to physical and psychological abuse. The Home had to be expanded due to the increasing number of inmates.
Sponsoring the educational and sustenance needs of 70 children at the Tiny Star Montessori, while also sponsoring shoes for 75 children at the Caring Hands Christmas party.
